- no google login bug (where you had to login with each boot)

This is not a ROOT for the 2.1 leak. This is from 1.5-2.1 ONLY so don't just go flashing and brick your device. 1.5 to 2.1 root ONLY.

How To Root Your HTC Eris
This root has bugs our chefs are currently working on a cooked rom for us but until they do please be aware that some things may not work right yet.
The Eris has been rooted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To root follow these instructions
As of right now you must have a 1.5 phone in order for this to work
*Note before updating. Do not use Mybackup Pro app to restore your home screens in the new 2.1.
You will loose all HTC widgets and you will have to repeat steps 3-8 over again.*
Dedicated to rooting the VZW Droid Eris. 2.1
download 2.1 from the section down below then:
TUTORIAL:
1. place the PB00IMG.zip in the root of your sdcard
2. back up all important data contacts synced with google will transfer over when you sign into your google account.
3. shut down phone
4. start phone with "power+volume down" at the same time
5. let it load the PB00IMG.zip
6. when it asks to press action to update it means press trackball center
7. it will take about 10 minutes to boot the first time
8. go through the google setup wizard as usuall and ENJOY
9. If there are any problems after the update process such as sense not working or HTC widgets missing, reload the img and repeat steps 3-8 to try the update process again. If this does not fix your problem then please visit our IRC channel as stated below.
To Mount use
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Is it possible to go back to 1.5 from the 2.1 root? Google Maps doesn't work.
Yes, you have to have root acceess to downgrade and this upgrade grants you that . I know that the devs have figured out how to unroot the Milestone so it's only a atter of time if not already possible. The only thing not undoable is if you brick your device, which isn't all that easy to do. If you're not tech savvy in any way than maybe root isn't what you'd like. There is an image on sendshare via youutube that will give you 2.1 but no live wallpapers.

Yup, I'm working on the maps can't upgrade issue too. I'm sure it will be corrected by someone soon.
How to fix the app problem a lot of them won't work
how do i know if my phone is rooted? i got a version of 2.1 on my eris from some were else so is that rooted. since i already have the 2.1 i cant use your download right. because the one i got doesnt have live wallpaper

I have the Driod Eris and i got the update but i dont have gallery but other than that it works fine
Hi all you super smart people!
I used the 1.5 - 2.1 root upgrade out of desperation, because Verizon still had me running 1.5 and would not get the update out and it was supposed to fix a problem I was having with the Blue tooth turning itself on and off at random times... Anyway the 1.5 - 2.1 Root is awesome problem fixed, but now at odd random times I am losing in call audio. The phone rings - I answer it - I cannot hear the caller and caller can't hear me. This is the same with calls I place when it is doing this. A power cycle of the device usually sets it right again.
Any Ideas?
Has anyone had this issue?

Just got my Eris from vzw and out of the box it was already 2.1. Hoping for a 2.1->2.2 root though! 2.2 has fun features!
